GET READY FOR KNOXVILLE

WWA’s 2010 CONVENTION

Western history will be made June 22-26 when Western Writers of America holds its first convention east of the Mississippi River at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.

A full program and registration form will be posted online in the coming weeks, but just to give you a preview of what we have in mind for our Tennessee bash:

√ Since we’ll be just a couple hours east of Nashville, Music City USA, we’ll be announcing WWA’s Greatest Western Songs of All Time, as voted on by active and associate members. (You should be getting your ballot via email shortly, or look in the April issue of Roundup magazine.)

√ Major panels on The Business of The Song, The Business of the Book and The Business of Film.

√ Panels on Indian Writers, Cherokees and the Trail of Tears, Davy Crockett, etc.

√ Trips to Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.

√ Our annual agents-editors panel and signups for pitch sessions.

√ Our fund-raising auction for the Homestead Foundation on Thursday evening.

√ And, of course, our annual book-signing at the East Tennessee Historical Society on Friday evening, as well as our Spur Awards Finalists Luncheon on Friday afternoon and Spur Awards Banquet on Saturday night during which we’ll honor the best Western literature of 2009 as well as Pulitzer Prize winner N. Scott Momaday, our recipient of this year’s Owen Wister Award for lifetime contributions to the literature of the American West.

The WWA Convention is open to members and nonmembers. Rates will be announced soon.

I look forward to seeing y’all in Tennessee.

Johnny D. Boggs

WWA President
